FORT DODGE, KANSAS – Hugh McLaughlin, 90, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge.
He was born June 8, 1921 at Barnesville, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Anna Robben McLaughlin. A longtime Dodge City, Kansas resident, formerly of Ohio and Colorado, he was a linotype operator and a machinist for numerous printing companies, including the High Plains Journal in Dodge City, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Andrew Church, Wright and 4th Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955, Dodge City.
He served in the United States Army during WWII.
On April 25, 1945 he married Viola Reischman at Miltonsburg, Ohio. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2010.
Survivors include: 5 sons, Paul and wife Dianne, Wooster, Ohio, John, Yoder, Colorado, Tom and wife Renee, Colorado Springs, Joe and wife Debbie, Montezuma and Karl and wife Teresa, Colorado Springs; 4 daughters, Martha Vandervort and husband Doug, Lincoln, Nebraska, Rosemary Pagano and husband Frank, Philadelphia, Karen Worley, Colorado Springs and Linda McLaughlin, Colorado Springs; a sister, Mary Blanchard, Gambier, Ohio; a son-in-law, Bob Smith, Castle Rock, Colorado; 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Helen Smith, 2 brothers, Edward & William and a grandson, Jason McLaughlin.
Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at St. Andrew Church, Wright. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Wednesday at the church with Fr. Robert A. Schremmer presiding. Friends may call from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Wright with military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714.
