George "Bud" Doan
(June 29, 1930 - May 14, 2012)
He was born June 29, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of George O. and Lillian (Tindle) Doan. He attended Benton and Christian Brothers High Schools in St. Joseph. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. On May 31, 1954 he married Shirley Tinley in St. Joseph, Missouri, she survives. They moved to Dodge City in 1967 when he was transferred here by USDA as a Commodity Meat Grader. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was co-owner and operator of various businesses including Doan Secretarial Service, Skateland Fun Center, Fun Center 24 Bowl, The Snack Shack and Lazer Shootout. He is survived by his wife; one son George “Butch” and wife Eugenia Doan, Dodge City; four grandchildren, Cheyenne and husband Chad Nichols, William “Willy Doan, George II “Buddy” and wife Bobbie Doan, Matthew Doan; one step-grandson, David Wyman; six great grandchildren; Taylor, Tyrese, Chad II, Alyssa and Avonte Nichols and Maya Doan; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Martin and a sister Jean. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and American Legion. He loved his family and enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and softball. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Remembrance Service at a later date for family and friends.
